OUR STRATEGY

We believe discipleship is a journey that lasts a lifetime. Because of this, our strategy involves plugging ourselves into regular rhythms that will help us grow spiritually over time. Our strategy is not flashy, but it is very intentional. As we equip one another to grow spiritually and do the work of ministry, we make more disciples and stronger disciples at the same time.

If you are new to Liberty, we encourage you to Jump In to our NEXT STEPS class, which is offered every month. You can find more information about that here, or email us at nextsteps@lbcchelsea.com.

WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?

A disciple of Jesus Christ is one who has surrendered his/her life to Him and is committed to following after Him. We define a disciple in terms of ever-developing roles, like character traits in a story. We call these measures because we can measure our progress in them over time. They are not sequential or successive–ideally, they all develop at the same time as you journey through life. So, a disciple is...

  1. A CHILD who knows God...
John 1:12 - But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God...

  2. A STUDENT who lives changed...
Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect...

  3. A FRIEND who loves others...
John 15:12-15 - This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone aly down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

  4. A HELPER who gives generously...
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 - The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not relunctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

  5. A MESSENGER who goes boldly...
2 Corinthians 5:20 - Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

  6. A GUIDE who shows the way...
1 Corinthians 11:1 - Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
